A HIGH ENERGY CELEBRATION OF SOME OF THE GREATEST ARTISTS OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.

Rock and pop music is fraught with talented and incredibly influential musicians whose lives were tragically cut short. Curiously, a high number of these musicians died at the age of 27 – these have collectively become known as the ’27 Club.’ Returning to the Fringe this year, the show 27 Club celebrates the music and lives of some of these people, including: Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse.

A sensational selection of musicians have come together to pay homage to the members of the 27 club: Sarah McLeod (The Superjesus), Kevin Mitchell (Jebediah), Carla Lippis, and Dusty Lee Stephensen. Each are masters in their own right, but together, they create an incredible sound.Standouts in this line up are certainly McLeod and Lippis. McLeod didn’t hold back with numbers such as Joplin’s Cry Baby and Another Little Piece of My Heart. Even a broken foot, under the support of a glitzed up moon-boot, didn’t phase McLeod. Lippis’s soulful and powerful voice tore to shreds Hendrix’s Foxy Lady. Lippis’s voice is something else. Full of light and shade, Lippis is a master of her art.

Be warned, 27 Club is loud, but honestly, there is no other way to listen to this music. 27 Club is more than a concert, it is a celebration of some of the greatest artists of all time. Do yourselves a favour and grab a ticket. This is one of the best shows on offer at this fringe, and at the great time of 6.30pm, there is still plenty of time to make a night of it and see some other wonderful shows afterwards.
